Baba Yaga is a Slavic / Russian witch and crone who lives in her enchanted and protected hut in the forests who is skilled and knowledgeable in magick, divination, witchcraft and herbalism.

The word baba (баба) in Russian and Ukrainian means “grandmother” or “old woman” which Baba Yaga lives up to this name.

Baba Yaga is best known in the Russian folktale of Baba Yaga and Vasilisa the Beautiful. An article on VICE explains more about the allure of Baba Yaga.

Baba Yaga can be called upon for a variety of reasons and be worked with such as for:

• Healing
• Witchcraft / Witchery
• Herbalism

This Baba Yaga Spell for Witches is designed to:

• help witches find their true calling
• heal themselves
• find and improve their witchcraft skills
• become better at their magick and sorcery
• achieve their goals in witchcraft and
• for overall success in life.

A Note about the Baba Yaga Spell for Witches:

There are three versions for this spell which will be included in this post – one version is in English and the second version is in Ukrainian and the third is in Russian.

Although Baba Yaga is essentially Russian, my own background is partially Ukrainian and therefore I’ve included the Ukrainian version that I created for myself.

The Ukrainian version is for anyone who feels comfortable with reading Ukrainian Cyrillic or has a Ukrainian background or feels drawn to use that version; otherwise, the English version can be used.

Included in this spell is a Russian version of the spell translated from the Ukrainian version.

Baba Yaga Spell for Witches

Duration: 7 days or 14 days (depending on candle preference)

Day of the Week to Start: Saturday

Time of Day: At night – after sunset or before sunrise

Hour of the Day: Saturn (if using planetary hours, but not absolutely necessary)

Required time each day for performing the spell: At least 15 minutes a day. (The candle will need to burn at least a few hours each day until it is finished. Performing the spell and meditation will require at least 15 to 25 minutes each day, but can be done multiple times in a day if desired for the duration while the candle burns each day.)

Ingredients:

Baba Yaga oil 

White candle – 7 day or 14 day glass vigil candle (If using a pull out candle, then dress the entire candle. If not, then dress the top of the candle.)

Herbs:

• Rowan berries
• Juniper berries
• Dried orange peel
• Dandelion leaves
• Basil
• Peppermint

*Herbs can be adjusted depending on personal needs. Place and dress the candle as needed, however be careful to ensure the herbs don’t pose a potential fire hazard. To help avoid this, try to push some of the herbs away from directly touching the candle wick and trim the candle wick to a reasonable length before lighting.

Premium quality vodka (offered every day/once a day during the duration of the candle burning/spell)

Quality tobacco or cigarettes (offered every day/once a day during the duration of the candle burning/spell)

Dress the candle in your usual method according to your practices or tradition prior to beginning the spell or preparing your sacred space for the spell.

A note about performing the spell:

It is customary to cover the head/hair with a headscarf (Ukrainian: хустка) when performing this spell. However, a hood/hoodie or hooded cloak may also be acceptable.
