Witchcraft is growing at an ever accelerating rate, thanks in part to social media, independent publishers, bloggers, fashion, magazines and the media.
The amount and variety of books about witchcraft has grown so much nowadays compared to 50 years ago or even 20 years ago.
New authors are coming onto the mainstream market making a name for themselves as the authors that I grew up reading their books over 20 years ago have (for lack of a better term, yet quite respectful) become the Elders in the global Witch / Pagan / Magickal community.
The witchcraft/pagan community has lost a few of the leading authors and pioneers of our time in the past 40 years, most notably: Gerald B. Gardner, Alex Sanders, Doreen Valiente, Scott Cunningham and Raymond Buckland. (Written as of February 2018.)
Most of the books listed here may be readily available on Amazon, your local bookstore or metaphysical shop or even your library.
However, some books may be harder to get the longer they are in print.
For example, books by Zsuzsanna Budapest become increasingly difficult to find (since most were published between the 1970s and mid-1990s).
Zsuszanna Budapest’s literary works are iconic and fundamental to the Dianic Witchcraft tradition. If you manage to find one of Budapest’s books for purchase (and it’s available), hold on and get it!
Witchcraft & Books
This is a continuation of 50 Books about Witchcraft that was written previously, as the world of witchcraft / pagan / Wiccan books keeps growing.
Most, if not all, of these books are new on this list and aren’t included in the previous book list.
Included in this list are some fiction and non-fiction books, as well as books about the Salem Witch Trials.
Witchcraft isn’t only about performing rituals, spells and magick.
It’s also about understanding the history, lineage and learning about the founders of the witchcraft movement and practice, including what has become of witchcraft and the troubles that have surrounded it.
And then, what’s not to love about having some fiction about witches, which many novels are now depicting witches in a more accurate (albeit embellished) light.
