Monday, June 20 2016 is the Summer Solstice, full moon and beginning of the astrology sign Cancer. That’s a lot in one day! How are you going to make the most of it? Unfortunately, probably the majority of us will be doing some type of work that will take most of our attention and focus away from all the awesomeness of the cosmos, but deep inside our spiritual psyches there’s going to be a lot of energy being received and sent. How are we supposed to focus with all that going on? One thing at a time. Just one thing at a time.
The full moon on the Summer Solstice hasn’t occurred since 1948 according to resources like the Farmer’s Almanac. The next scheduled full moon and Summer Solstice match-up won’t be until 2094! So, I guess we better make this one count then, right?
Of course, with any cool astro-stuff happening, there’s going to be hysteria and weird paranoid-stuff going on and “doomsday” theories like this one mentioned by Sunday Express UK about a YouTube post. (As if we don’t have enough to worry about.) So, if we all just remain calm – maybe we’ll get through this? (Definitely.) The guy in the video mentioned in that Sunday Express post is compared to Russell Brand, and I love Brand’s quirkiness and showmanship to get important issues across… but well, decide for yourself if you must! (TarotPugs does not endorse any of these theories of doomsday predictions, etc.… in all likeliness, I will still have to go to work on Tuesday just like everyone else.) In the meantime, think happy, summer thoughts everyone! It’s time to be happy!
In any event, times like these during the year are a good time to do a “spot check” and see how we’re doing so far and where we are at this point of the year. As we soon approach the halfway mark of the year (July 2), we can look back at the last six months and see how far we’ve come and even over the last year to see if we’ve accomplish or learned anything new, then see what we want to set out to achieve in the next six months.
There are a few ways you can look back or ahead and reflect during this Summer Solstice and full moon.
If you’re like me and you love to write, you may have no problem grabbing a pen and some paper and writing out lists and thoughts down and all over the place. I have papers, sticky notes, bits of paper and notebooks all over the place; on my dining table, in my nightstand, in my purse, on and in my desk, paper everywhere. I know society is trying to become a paperless society, but I still need old school pen and paper to get all my thoughts out. Key point: recycle always.
Sounds expected here on a Tarot blog – as it should! You can try different spreads as simple or as elaborate as you like. You can do a review or summary of the past six months or a forecast for the next six months. If you have plans that you haven’t put into affect yet, you can look to see how that might go. If you want to think even shorter-term, you can look to see what you need to focus on during the next moon cycle. For somewhere in between short-term and the next six months, you can look into what you can focus or what may happen in the next couple of months until Lammas or until the Autumnal Equinox. These inquiries can be as simple as three cards or more elaborate with as many cards as you like.
Old-Fashioned To-Do List (the 21st Century Way)
This can be something going forward that you can put on your phone, like using an app like Google Keep or Evernote and have it set as a reminder on repeat. If you have ideas or things that you want to do in the next few weeks or months (or even years), you can break up these tasks into smaller things and check them off as you complete them. It’s easy to forget or procrastinate, but with a reminder on your phone it may be a little easier with some added determination. This way, you can check in with yourself to see what needs to be done and what has been done. There’s always a bit of a sense of accomplishment when you can finally check something off that To-Do list.
Hoping everyone has a great and safe Summer Solstice, fabulous Full Moon and a happy astrological Cancer season.
